(K-LOVE News – by Tim Luttrell) – One man’s desire to share the love of God with teens has grown into a nationwide event known as Fields of Faith.

Jeff Martin felt frustrated by the temptations and spiritual battles he saw young people facing. As area director for the Oklahoma Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he asked God what he could do to make a difference. He then felt God lead him to the biblical story of young King Josiah. Though only a child when he came to power, the Bible’s book of 2 Kings recounts that Josiah turned Israel back towards God in a time when they had strayed far from his word.

Inspired by Josiah, the student-led Fields of Faith event was born. It’s similar to a school pep rally, but it’s not about getting students fired up for a football game. It’s about getting them fired up for Jesus. Teens take 45-60 minutes on the field share their faith in Christ with their friends, pray for them and encourage them to follow God and read the Bible.

The first Fields Of Faith gathering in 2004 had just 6,000 participants in a couple of midwestern states. Now it draws more than 190,000 teens to 500 high school football fields and gyms nationwide every year.
